I love it Dawn - brilliant idea to make the rock into a house!!! Thank you so much for the link and the credit
You're welcome. It's so cool, I really wanted to use it somehow, but not take away from it. How tall is that thing, anyway? Do you know?
I guess it is about 50 feet tall - but I'm not much good at guessing distances hehe - it was bl**dy big
kinda looks like an elephant's leg!
Thank you I think it's not far off falling over - huge crack at the bottom
Oh noes! The poor poor elephant leg. You should run over there and support it's weight
This is cool....
It sounds very strange, great shot!
When you said you had a bunch of rock photos, I did not anticipate this! Makes me think of a huge upside down elephant leg for some reason.
great shot .. looks like a very old lava rock layer!!
We saw lava layers there Patty but the gorlogy books say it's carbonate - don't believe it
I think it's a lava pillar. They are formed when an extinct volcano wears away and leaves the harder rock from the center caldera behind. This is the smallest I've ever seen. In the western United States we have huge ones.
Absolutely wonderful! I really thought it was a pillar. I've never seen it's like though, only the huge ones in the western US.
Hey! Thanks for the link. It just goes to show ya there's something new to learn every day.
I visited it last year and itīs amazing. Lots of big rocks like this but every one different...
